Tomaso Eberle, one of the most important makers of the 18th century Neapolitan school. Born near Fussen in the Tyrol, he reached Naples and studied with Nicolo Gagliano, although his work also shows affinities with Gennaro Gagliano. Eberle's f-holes are less flowing than his teacher's, while his scroll carving is finer. This violin, dated 1752, was restored by the well-known Vienna maker Luigi.
