Pasquale Ventapane, active in Naples from about 1840 to 1870 and a member of the Naples school founded on the work of Vincenzo Postiglione. He chose his wood very carefully and built with meticulous care. His violins have a warm, rounded tone, rich resonance and fine projection; a comparable example sold at auction in March 2008 for USD 24,049 and his instruments now trade around USD 50,000. This one is dated 1839.
