Gaetano Antoniazzi (1825–1897) is considered, together with the little-known Pietro Grulli , one of the last true representatives of traditional Cremonese violin making — a lineage that runs from G.B. Ceruti through his son Giuseppe and grandson Enrico. Antoniazzi is presumed to have been a pupil of one or both of the later ...Read More Cerutis in Cremona before moving to Milan in 1870, still well before Enrico Ceruti's death, carrying that Cremonese training north with him. There he adopted a circular branded motif with initials and a cross that had originated with G.B. Ceruti and passed down through the family — a small but telling sign of the direct lineage he claimed. By 1900, Gaetano's sons, Riccardo and Romeo, together with their own pupil Leandro Bisiach, had gone on to transform Milan into the centre of the modern Italian violin trade, effectively refounding a school that Cremona's own long "dark years" (from G.B. Ceruti's 1817 death to Enrico's maturity) had nearly extinguished. Read Less
