Piero Badalassi (1915-1991), made in Pisa in 1952. Largely self-taught, he opened his own workshop in 1936 and after the war studied with Igino Sderci. He won the gold medal at the first Cremona international competition (1976) with a viola, and prizes at Cremona in 1937, 1965 and 1973. Personal classic model, carefully chosen wood and an orange-gold oil varnish; the tone is powerful, penetrating, mature and warm. A highly desirable 20th century Italian violin.
