Hand-made Metal Violin Bridge Lifter

A hand-made metal bridge lifter for violin. When the string tension – close to 21 kg – is suddenly released to change a bridge, the bridge can shift and the sound post can fall. Righting a fallen post is not a simple matter: it must be positioned so that both ends sit perfectly against the arching of the top and back, and the tone has to be re-voiced with professional tools. Two-sided slot designs cannot carry such a large and unevenly distributed load.

This metal lifter lifts all four strings together, automatically finds the balance point and keeps the original E-string position, so that bridge and strings return exactly where they were. Metal is far stronger than other materials and spreads the tension evenly. The parts that touch the strings and the top are fitted with removable, washable felt pads, and the contact edges are hand-ground to the same curvature as the top for stable support.
