Oskar Bernhard Heinel (1871-1931) of Markneukirchen. Trained under Hans Jaeger, then worked in Dresden (C. A. Bauer) and Hamburg (August Diehl) before opening his own workshop in 1893. He used fine materials and his own oil varnish – red, light brown, dark brown and golden – and made precise copies of classic Italian and Stainer models. He is regarded as one of the finest German makers of his generation. This violin is dated 1927.
